RELEASING SUPPRESSED EMOTIONS

Welcoming you back to your body.

Can you feel that? Those words, “back to your body” - Like, where have I been if I haven’t been in my body??

In the mind, in the past, in the future, in the to-do list, lit-er-ally anywhere but the present moment.

Are you hooked or are you free? We have become really fucking good at creating a “productive” schedule of distraction for ourselves. Filling the day with things to do every moment, places to go, people to help, work to do, even our self-care is a task to check off the list. We do our meditation, show up for yoga, go for that daily walk and the entire time we are thinking. We are either looping in stories of the past or illusions and anticipation of the future. Unable to quiet the mind, unaware that even our personal practices are another thing to get done. We tell ourselves we are making time for ourselves, to nourish and calm our nervous systems, but are we really? Do we actually know how?

The mind is so good at narrating life for us, creating dialogues, stories, scenarios, future tripping, analyzing, processing past experiences like a movie running in our minds all the time. There’s no silence, even when there is silence in our environment, there is noise in our minds. We can’t even feel what’s happening in our inner world because we are busy “living life” in our minds.

Completely disconnected from ourselves.

And when we do experience loneliness, sadness, grief, anger, frustration, shame creeping in, our phones are always right there offering plenty of ways for us to escape the discomfort. We click on the apps, looking for notifications, hoping for something to take us away, a new message, an email, something to keep us from feeling what we have suppressed. We are addicts.

What if we became painfully aware of just how addicted we really are?

What if we stopped running from ourselves? What if we chose not to distract? To break the addiction, to be with the feeling instead of running from it?

We would learn to be with the darkness, the pain, the regret, shame, heartache, grief, fear … we would greet it, welcome it, be with it, and allow it to move through us. We would begin to remember who we are underneath all the emotional residue we’ve held inside for decades. The darkness would become familiar, less scary, and easier to be with. We wouldn’t need to create such a cracked out schedule for ourselves everyday because we would be okay - okay with less, okay with silence, with nothingness, with open space and stillness.

We would learn how to be alone with ourselves, and experience peace and calm inside.

Little bits at a time, learning to drop the stories of the past and be with the feelings, we become free. Somatic Activated Healing teaches us how to be in our bodies - to feel, to unhook, to heal.
